Puerto Rico man jailed for biting the head off his girlfriend's Chihuahua dog

A man in Puerto Rico has been jailed for a series of horrific crimes, including biting the head off his girlfriend's dog.

Luis Arroyo (40) bit off the head of the two-month-old Chihuahua puppy, and then punched his partner in the face.

The incident happened in the western mountain town of Lares on February 4, a court heard.

Judge Carlos Lopez Jimenez also fined Arroyo $3,000 (€2,752) in the case.

El Vocero newspaper reports that unemployed Arroyo had been living with his 38-year-old girlfriend for six months.

The small dog died instantly.

Arroyo was unable to originally post his bail which was set at $400,000 (€370,084).

He is now being held at  Las Cucharas Correctional Complex.
