Nurses cried while caring for twins in 'worst case of child abuse seen' - say police
Nurses have described a case in Oklahoma as the "worst case of child abuse" they have ever seen.
Parents Kevin Fowler (25) and Aislyn Miller (24) were taken into custody after police received a report of suspicious activity at their home.
Police entered the family home and discovered a set of twins who were immediately brought to a medical care facility.
According to the New York Daily News, nurses were reduced to tears while caring for the twins.
One nurse told members of the police force that the children looked like "skeletons" and she discovered a maggot crawling out of one of the baby's genital areas.
The young children also suffered from diaper rash and bed sores and were in an overall unclean condition.
Miller told police in interviews the young couple were aware of the twins' health problems, but did not have the money to provide medical care or them. She also confirmed that the babies had not attended a doctor since they were born.
The pair are currently being held in Tulsa County Jail on a $100,000 (€94,000) bond.
