'Good boy Storm' - Dog dubbed a 'hero' after he saved drowning young deer's life

A dog is being dubbed a hero after he spotted a drowning deer - and jumped in to save its life.

Storm the golden retriever was out for a walk with his family near Port Jefferson Harbor, New York when he spotted a drowning fawn in the water.

Proud owner Mark Freeley watched as his dog swam out and dragged the deer by her neck, paddling her back to land.

Freeley filmed the entire event, calling "Good boy Storm... bring him in" to encourage his pet.

He uploaded the footage online, writing; "What a morning...can't believe this...Storm just saved this baby deer from PJ Harbor..."

Freeley immediately called the Strong Island Animal Rescue League who arrived on the scene to assist with the ill animal.

Unfortunately, the fawn was spooked and jumped back into the water.

The group wrote about its workers; "The deer got spooked and jumped back into the water.

"Frankie swam out and brought it to shore.

"Erica carried it over a mile to her truck and together they transported it to the Star Foundation for treatment and rehab."
