Police in Ohio are searching for three suspects after a driver was shot dead after hitting a four-year-old boy with his car.

Jamie Urton (44) was allegedly speeding down a residential street when he knocked down boy on the kerb, according to the New York Post.

When Mr Urton stopped his car to check on the young boy, he was shot dead after an argument allegedly erupted with onlookers.

Cincinnati Police Department said no suspects have been arrested.

The young boy's father, Jamal Killings told WCPO news that his son was released from hospital after suffering from a brain bleed.

He said he was too busy checking on his son to notice what happened to Mr Urton.

"My job as a father was to get my son face first off the concrete and take him to see medical attention, and that’s what I did,” Mr Killings told WCPO.

The dad alleged that Mr Urton was speeding when he hit his son who was on the curb.

"I don’t condone violence. I don’t teach my kids violence. That should never have happened … an unfortunate situation, unfortunate event, but I hope we can all learn from this," Mr Killings said.
