A professional ballroom dancer who lost a leg in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings has scaled Ecuador's third-highest mountain.

Adrianne Haslet, who ran the entire 26.2-mile race last spring, has now reached the summit of 18,996ft Volcan Cayambe with a team of climbers from the Range of Motion Project.

The non-profit group helps provide prosthetic limbs to people around the world who do not have access to them.

The expedition reached the summit of the snow-capped mountain on Sunday.

Ms Haslet tweeted: "I can hardly put it into words."

She was cheering for the runners in 2013 when she was injured by the second of two bombs planted among the crowds. Three people were killed and more than 260 others wounded.
