Ministers watched porn in assembly

THREE Indian politicians from a morally conservative party -- including a women's affairs minister -- have resigned after being caught watching pornography on a mobile phone during a session of state parliament.

News channels broadcast footage showing Karnataka state minister Laxman Savadi sharing a porn clip with his colleague C C Patil as they sat in the state assembly.

Homeless are told to stay indoors

A FRENCH health minister, Nora Berra has been ridiculed on the internet for writing a blog at the weekend, advising the homeless to stay indoors.

She said toddlers, old people, the sick and the homeless should "avoid going outdoors" during Europe's current severe cold snap.

Sauerkraut jam halts Germans

PILES of sauerkraut tumbled out of a truck on a busy German motorway and quickly froze to the autobahn surface, causing a massive traffic jam near Frankfurt during Tuesday's morning rush hour.

A truck crashed into another vehicle near the western town of Friedberg and scattered its contents across the motorway.

Westwood lands himself in a hole

LEE Westwood was forced to apologise after his mother caught him swearing on live television at last week's Qatar Masters, the world's number three golfer has admitted.

The incident occurred at the 16th on Sunday, during a round that left him in a tie for 12th place behind the tournament winner Paul Lawrie.

Facebook to be used in manhunts

POLICE in the German state of Lower Saxony will soon use their networks of Facebook "friends" to find missing persons and hunt out suspected criminals, according to the state's interior minister.

The decision to use social media in manhunts follows the completion of a pilot scheme in the northern city of Hanover last year, which drew sharp criticism from data-protection groups.

Plane on ground, pilot high as a kite

LION Air's slogan of "We make you fly" came a bit too close to the truth this weekend when one of the Indonesian airline's pilots tested positive for crystal meth just hours before he was due to take off.

The 44-year-old pilot was arrested in a hotel on Saturday in Surabaya, Indonesia's second city.

Man shot in pub in Manchester

The victim, named by sources as 23-year-old Mark Short, was gunned down in the Cotton Tree pub in Market Street, Droylsden, Greater Manchester shortly before 11.50pm yesterday.Three other men, believed to be related to Mr Short, were also injured and are being treated in hospital.

Giant royal family on Southbank

The largest ever photograph of the Royal Family has been displayed on a prominent South Bank building in celebration of the Queen?s Diamond Jubilee.Sea Containers, by Blackfriars Bridge, was enrobed in the giant picture measuring 100m by 70m and weighing in at nearly two tons. The image was erected by a team of eight people over 45 hours. It is due to remain in place until July.

Oldest woman defeats Everest again

Watanabe reached the summit from the Tibetan side on 19 May, at the age of 73 years and 180 days. That day, more than 200 climbers were aiming for the summit on the busier southern route in Nepal. Four died, apparently from altitude sickness and exhaustion, on one of the deadliest days on the mountain.
