UN chief says half of Syria's hospitals in ruins

KUWAIT'S Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah has pledged $300m (€221.8m) to help refugees of the Syrian civil war.

Speaking at Mr Al-Sabah's meeting in Kuwait City, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon (pictured) said that half of Syria's hospitals had been destroyed and a quarter of the schools were in ruins.

Mr Ki-moon said the meeting was seeking to raise $1.5 bn (€1.1bn).
