Turkey's claim that Syria shot down one of its Phantom F4 fighter jets last month has been called into question after tests failed to find any trace of explosives on the aircraft's wreckage.

Turkey's general staff said: "No traces of explosives or flammable products were found on debris recovered from the sea."

Bizarrely, Syria admits to felling the jet, killing both its pilots. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
