Suicide bomber kills after posing as victim

Richard Spencer in Baghdad

An Iraqi suicide bomber posed as a victim wounded in another attack yesterday, and blew himself up in a hospital, killing many of the survivors of the first two blasts.

The man, wearing the uniform of an army lieutenant, was delivered by ambulance to the hospital in Baquba, about 60 kilometres north of Baghdad.

A total of 33 people -- including 10 policemen -- died and 55 were wounded in the three attacks, which began with two car bombs outside a local government housing office and near the provincial government headquarters.

A fourth bomb was discovered near the hospital and defused.

The attacks bear the hallmarks of al-Qa'ida, which is known to operate in the area. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
