Palestinians blamed for bombing that injured Irish peacekeepers
A Palestinian group is believed to have been responsible for the roadside bomb attack that injured two Irish peacekeepers in south Lebanon.
The soldiers, Regimental Sergeant Major John McCormack and Company Sergeant David Williams, were discharged from hospital yesterday after being treated for cuts and bruises.
The two soldiers were taken to Hammoud hospital after the blast rocked their United Nations jeep as they were on their way from Beirut to their mission headquarters at Naqoura.
The blame for the blast is being directed towards members of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine -- General Command.
The attack was carried out close to the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp, which is being used as a base by several units of the PFLP-GC.
Initial investigations by officers from the UN indicated that the blast was caused by a remote controlled roadside bomb.
