The Local Co-ordination Committees said women and children were among those killed in today's attack on the Maghayer neighbourhood, and a number of people were also injured.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the death toll higher at 18, and said more than 50 people were injured.

It said the surface-to-surface missile destroyed several houses in the area.

Aleppo, Syria's largest city and once its commercial centre, has been contested since July 2012.
