Double suicide bomb attack against Shiite mosque in Iraq kills at least 12 worshippers
A double suicide bomb attack against a Shiite mosque in north-eastern Iraq has killed at least 12 worshippers, officials said.
Police said a car bomber first attacked the al-Zahraa mosque in the town of Balad Ruz as worshippers were leaving after the Friday sermon. A second bomber on foot attacked the crowds gathered in the aftermath.
At least 30 others were wounded, the official added.
Balad Ruz is 44 miles north east of Baghdad.
A medical official confirmed the casualty figures.
The attack bore the hallmarks of the Islamic State extremist group, which considers Shiite Muslims heretics.
