Man 'stalked' UK pop star's mum

A MAN has appeared in court after allegedly stalking the mother of 'X Factor' winner Joe McElderry.

Eileen Joyce complained to police that she was followed at Asda in South Shields, UK, on Christmas Eve. Ennis McBride (52), of Rostrevor Road, Stockport, Greater Manchester, was arrested and charged with harassment.

Woman gave out cash after robbery

A WOMAN suspected of robbing a Boston bank was caught a short time later handing out dollar bills to children at a park.

The court heard she walked into the Citizens Bank, passed the teller a note demanding money and warned she had a gun. She got an undisclosed amount of cash and left in a taxi. Jasmin Rivera was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation when she appeared in court yesterday.

Officers banned from charging up

A BRITISH police force has banned officers from charging their mobile phones and MP3 players at work as it tries to save £50m (€60m).

Sussex Police said the new rule had the support of staff as it tries to save the cash by 2015. But the ban will save only thousands a year for the force, which has around 5,000 staff.

Williams 'would bed Pitt for free'

ROBBIE Williams has revealed he would happily sleep with a man for £2m and would offer his services to Hollywood star Brad Pitt for free.

The singer, who is married to American television actress Ayda Field, made the comments on a web chat. He said: "It's £2m for Santa, but it's a freebie for Brad Pitt."

Rare brainless fish type discovered

A BRAINLESS and faceless fish was one of 15 rare species discovered during a series of marine surveys this year.

The prehistoric Amphioxus, described by the Scottish government as "elusive", was found in waters off Tankerness in Orkney. The fish has a nerve cord down its back and is regarded as a representative of the first animals to evolve a backbone.

Thief proposed with stolen ring

A MAN proposed to his girlfriend with a stolen engagement ring -- she said 'yes', but the ring landed him in custody.

Police in Vermont, US, said Ryan Jarvis (25) had been charged with stealing the €2,379 solitaire ring from a jewellery store, after officers viewed a facebook post by his girlfriend.
