A German man has been convicted of the attempted murder of Cologne's mayor the day before she was elected last year.
The state court in Dusseldorf sentenced the defendant to 14 years in prison, news agency dpa reported.
Henriette Reker was stabbed in the neck as she campaigned on October 17.
Prosecutors said the 45-year-old defendant, identified only as Frank S. in line with German privacy rules, tried to kill her because of her welcoming attitude towards refugees.
The defendant admitted the attack but denied any intention to kill Ms Reker.
Ms Reker was elected mayor the day after the attack while in an induced coma and took office about a month later.
