Irish Taoiseach Enda Kenny has met President Barack Obama at the White House as part of his visit to the US to mark St Patrick's Day.
The two leaders, who met in the Oval Office, used the opportunity to discuss the situation in Ukraine, with Mr Obama saying he still hopes for a diplomatic solution but warning Russia anew that it will face consequences if Ukraine's sovereignty is violated.
As part of their meeting, the pair exchanged shamrocks in a custom started under President Harry Truman.
Earlier, Mr Kenny enjoyed a breakfast of eggs, potatoes and Irish soda bread with vice-president Joe Biden, who has an Irish background, at his official residence.
Later, the leaders plan to attend the annual St Patrick's Day lunch at the Capitol before a reception hosted by the Obamas back at the White House.
