THOSE of you of a nervous disposition need have no fears, it is not the end of the world as we know it, according to the man known as Mexico's "Grand Warlock".

Antonio Vazquez Alba has debunked theories of doomsday in 2012 as "big fat lies".

In his annual prediction, Mr Vazquez is adamant that the Mayans never predicted the world ending.

However, the news is not universally good because Mr Vazquez also suggested at a press conference that witchcraft caused the rash of cancer cases among South American leaders.

Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez questioned last week if the US could have induced the illness that he and leaders of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay suffer from.

The warlock has a high profile in his homeland and has predicted events since 1980, but his record is not spot-on. In 2008, he predicted Britney Spears's death.
