IS suspect stabs Istanbul officer to death in police station
A suspected Islamic State suicide bomber has stabbed a police officer to death while being taken into custody in Istanbul.
Turkey's official news agency Anadolu said police had detained a man thought to be planning a bomb attack on behalf of the extremist group in an anti-terror operation .
The suspect was being taken to the main Istanbul police station, escorted by two officers, when he stabbed one of them, before being shot dead, police said.
Turkey has endured multiple bomb attacks since 2015, blamed on IS and Kurdish militants, as well as a failed coup attempt.
Combating terror is high on the political agenda.
It was not clear how the stabbing suspect had access to a knife.
