In brief: School bus moved from strip club

Officials in South Carolina are moving a school bus stop that was near a strip club after parents complained.

Local reports say children had to wait in a car park of a strip club in the US state in Atlantic Beach to catch the school bus. Misty Umphries, a mother of one of the children, said she had to tell her 4-year-old son what "topless" means.

'X Factor' judge Gary Barlow has agreed to step in as a last-minute headliner for a major show in Hyde Park, after Lionel Richie pulled out due to illness.

The Take That idol said Chris Evans asked him to play the London gig, which takes place tomorrow. Barlow added: "I was more than happy to help out."

Harrison worried about feat ahead

Olympic boxing champion Audley Harrison is hoping his size 17 feet do not get in the way of his bid for ballroom glory.

The 6ft 5in heavyweight fighter said he was the "tallest, heaviest and most clumsy" of all the celebrities in this year's 'Strictly Come Dancing'. "I've definitely got rhythm but I have bad balance," he added.

Strachan joins TV nature show

Michaela Strachan is joining the BBC's 'Autumnwatch Live' as a replacement for Kate Humble.

The move means the star will be reunited with her former 'Really Wild Show' co-host Chris Packham, who took over the reins from Bill Oddie in 2009. Strachan will appear alongside Packham and Martin Hughes-Games.

Gaga nominated for equality award

Lady Gaga has been nominated as hero of the year at this year's Stonewall Awards.

The singer, who has been nominated for her campaign work for gay equality, is up against veteran musician Joan Armatrading. The sixth Stonewall Awards ceremony will take place on November 3 at the Victoria and Albert Museum, in central London.

Police detain US weapons suspect

Mexican police arrested an American man accused of trafficking grenades and gun parts to one of the country's deadliest drug cartels in a sign the gangs could now be making their own weapons.

Federal police captured Jean Baptiste Kingery last week at a house in the Pacific tourist town of Mazatlan, where they seized a small cache of guns and found a Hummer car parked outside.

Man shot in pub in Manchester

The victim, named by sources as 23-year-old Mark Short, was gunned down in the Cotton Tree pub in Market Street, Droylsden, Greater Manchester shortly before 11.50pm yesterday.Three other men, believed to be related to Mr Short, were also injured and are being treated in hospital.

Giant royal family on Southbank

The largest ever photograph of the Royal Family has been displayed on a prominent South Bank building in celebration of the Queen?s Diamond Jubilee.Sea Containers, by Blackfriars Bridge, was enrobed in the giant picture measuring 100m by 70m and weighing in at nearly two tons. The image was erected by a team of eight people over 45 hours. It is due to remain in place until July.

Oldest woman defeats Everest again

Watanabe reached the summit from the Tibetan side on 19 May, at the age of 73 years and 180 days. That day, more than 200 climbers were aiming for the summit on the busier southern route in Nepal. Four died, apparently from altitude sickness and exhaustion, on one of the deadliest days on the mountain.
