In brief: Million-mile driver gets a new car

A Maine man and his car are celebrating a million-mile milestone.

Joe LoCicero was given a 2012 Honda Accord at a parade in the city of Saco after surpassing the million-mile mark on the odometer of his 1990 Accord. He reached the milestone last Thursday.

New York's Statue of Liberty is getting hi-tech gifts for her 125th birthday: webcams on her torch that will let viewers gaze out at New York.

People will also be able to read the tablet in her hands or see visitors on the grounds of the island below. The five torch cams are to be switched on this Friday during a ceremony to commemorate the dedication of the Statue of Liberty on October 28, 1886.

Roses' Ian Brown fined for speeding

Stone Roses frontman Ian Brown escaped a driving ban after he was clocked speeding at 105mph.

Brown (48), of Lymm, Cheshire, appeared before Chester magistrates, who fined him £650 (€746) and endorsed his driving licence with six penalty points after he pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to speeding in his Lexus car on the M6.

Ferrell awarded US comedy gong

Will Ferrell, who refined his impersonation of President George W Bush on the sketch comedy show 'Saturday Night Live' and later took his presidential act to Broadway, was awarded the top American humour prize.

The star went on to make films and co-found the website FunnyorDie.com, which won him the Mark Twain Prize for American Humour from the Kennedy Centre.

Women take more driving lessons

Women take more driving lessons than men and spend a lot more in their attempts to throw away their L-plates.

But men are only two months "ahead" of women in passing their test, being 19 years and five months old on average compared with 19 years and seven months for women, a survey from Co-operative Insurance found.

Mum gets carried away at wedding

A US man faces charges after authorities said he carried his mother out of a church when she arrived to stop his wedding.

Justin Lew Harris of Gardnerville, Nevada, carried his 56-year-old mother out of the church as she loudly objected to the ceremony. The wedding was called off after the disruption.
