In brief: Internet sperm donor faces fine

Federal officials in the US have issued a warning to a man who has been donating his sperm to women who want children.

Trent Arsenault (36), father of 14, claims his internet trade got three women pregnant last month. The Food and Drug Administration has now told him he is facing a $100,000 (€76,000) fine or up to a year in prison for ignoring regulations requiring blood tests to screen for communicable diseases.

'Fighter' vanishes from museum

A large model of an American jet fighter has mysteriously disappeared from a small Dutch museum.

Its owners are hoping pranksters rather than scrap metal thieves are responsible. Edwin van Brakel, chairman of the Museum Vliegbasis Deelen, said it was a mystery how thieves managed to move the 30ft long, one-tonne Lockheed Starfighter model.

Thermal device -- hot on thief's trail

Police investigating a burglar alarm in Michigan used a thermal imaging device to find a fleeing suspect hiding in leaves.

When the burglar realised he had been spotted, he ran off again -- and jumped into a river. Police arrested him after he went to a nearby motel to change his clothes.

Plane bomb man wants new lawyer

A Nigerian man who pleaded guilty to trying to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner with a bomb in his underwear wants a new legal adviser, preferably a lawyer who is Muslim.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab is asking a Detroit judge to dismiss his standby counsel, Anthony Chambers. He says their relationship is strained.

Bon Jovi posts pic to prove he's alive

Jon Bon Jovi wants fans to know he's not dead, and he has posted a photo proving it.

False reports of the New Jersey-born musician's death spread online after a fake news release surfaced on social media sites. Mr Bon Jovi is shown in a picture on his Facebook page holding a sign that reads: "Heaven looks a lot like New Jersey."

'Forbes' praises Zuckerberg, Gaga

Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg, human rights activist Ronan Farrow and pop stars Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber are people to watch, according to 'Forbes' magazine's list of top-achieving people under 30.

They were named on the influential magazine's '30 under 30' list.

Man shot in pub in Manchester

The victim, named by sources as 23-year-old Mark Short, was gunned down in the Cotton Tree pub in Market Street, Droylsden, Greater Manchester shortly before 11.50pm yesterday.Three other men, believed to be related to Mr Short, were also injured and are being treated in hospital.

Giant royal family on Southbank

The largest ever photograph of the Royal Family has been displayed on a prominent South Bank building in celebration of the Queen?s Diamond Jubilee.Sea Containers, by Blackfriars Bridge, was enrobed in the giant picture measuring 100m by 70m and weighing in at nearly two tons. The image was erected by a team of eight people over 45 hours. It is due to remain in place until July.

Oldest woman defeats Everest again

Watanabe reached the summit from the Tibetan side on 19 May, at the age of 73 years and 180 days. That day, more than 200 climbers were aiming for the summit on the busier southern route in Nepal. Four died, apparently from altitude sickness and exhaustion, on one of the deadliest days on the mountain.
