In brief: Grammys to mark Adele comeback

ADELE will make her live comeback at the Grammys next month and said she "can't wait" to perform at the awards ceremony, three months after surgery to cure a voice-threatening condition.

The star told fans on Twitter: "Ima be, Ima be singing at the Grammys. It's been so long I started to forget I was a singer! I can't wait, speak soon xx."

Palms read to see toddler potential

SEVERAL kindergartens in a province in northern China are charging parents 1,200 yuan (€145) for a palm-reading test that they claim can predict their toddlers' intelligence and potential, news agency Xinhua said.

Many parents have flocked to palm readers for the test, the report added.

Warm weather halts beer slide

A STEADY slide in beer consumption in Germany was stopped cold last year thanks to warmer weather, the federal statistics office revealed.

German brewers sold 98.2 million hectolitres of beer last year, down by just 0.1pc in 2011 after dropping by an average of 2pc every year since 2006.

School bans boots made for talking

SINGER Nancy Sinatra may have had boots made for walking, but she never attended Pottstown Middle School.

Starting next Monday, the Philadelphia suburban district is banning the wearing of fuzzy open-top boots because students have been stashing cell phones in the loose footwear.

Judge uses force on wannabe Jedi

AN Oregon judge is using his force to order a 45-day jail sentence and mental health tests on a would-be Jedi who attacked toy shop customers with light sabres last December.

Police said David Canterbury (33) had a 'Star Wars' light sabre in each hand as he swung at customers on December 14 at a Toys R Us store. He swung at police before officers wrestled him to the ground.

Hairy Potter to bare all yet again

'HARRY Potter' star Daniel Radcliffe has revealed he is to bare all once more -- and has been told to avoid any intimate grooming.

The actor, who has already stripped off on stage in the West End and on Broadway for 'Equus', said the director had warned him not to trim his pubic hair. He is lined up to play poet Allen Ginsberg in 'Kill Your Darlings'.

Man shot in pub in Manchester

The victim, named by sources as 23-year-old Mark Short, was gunned down in the Cotton Tree pub in Market Street, Droylsden, Greater Manchester shortly before 11.50pm yesterday.Three other men, believed to be related to Mr Short, were also injured and are being treated in hospital.

Giant royal family on Southbank

The largest ever photograph of the Royal Family has been displayed on a prominent South Bank building in celebration of the Queen?s Diamond Jubilee.Sea Containers, by Blackfriars Bridge, was enrobed in the giant picture measuring 100m by 70m and weighing in at nearly two tons. The image was erected by a team of eight people over 45 hours. It is due to remain in place until July.

Oldest woman defeats Everest again

Watanabe reached the summit from the Tibetan side on 19 May, at the age of 73 years and 180 days. That day, more than 200 climbers were aiming for the summit on the busier southern route in Nepal. Four died, apparently from altitude sickness and exhaustion, on one of the deadliest days on the mountain.
