Blur are to headline a major outdoor concert to mark the closing of the London Olympics this summer.

The band, who collected their outstanding contribution award at the Brit Awards last night, will top the bill at the show in London's Hyde Park.

Rihanna reunites with ex for song

Chris Brown and Rihanna are back together, musically speaking.

Two songs featuring the singers can be heard online. Mr Brown admitted assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna at a pre-Grammy Awards party back in 2009.

Club owner kicks footie into touch

Fans often question whether wealthy club owners have a real passion for their teams but the followers of Australian team Gold Coast United were left in no doubt at the weekend when Clive Palmer said he did not even like the sport.

A billionaire mining magnate, Mr Palmer launched the club as an expansion team in 2008 and they finished third and fourth in the regular season in their first two years.

Athletes to avoid heat in Qatar bid

Qatar is proposing to hold the 2020 Olympics in October to avoid the Gulf Arab state's searing summer heat, maintaining that the proposed October dates would "ensure ideal conditions for athletes and spectators".

Details of the bid show that Doha would like to stage the Olympics from October 2-18.

No doggie bag for best in show

The winning pet in a New York dog show will be able to enjoy the top prize -- a restaurant meal -- after all.

Reports suggested the city's health department would stop future winners enjoying the traditional victory meal at Sardi's because of a ban on pets in restaurants -- leaving them to make do with a doggie bag. But health officials said they will grant a one-day waiver of the rule for next year's winner.

Big cheese tale of a mousetronaut

The husband of former Arizona US Representative Gabrielle Giffords is writing a children's book about a mouse.

Retired astronaut Mark Kelly's publisher announced that 'Mousetronaut: A Partially True Story' will come out in October. The book was inspired by an unflappable mouse on Mr Kelly's first space shuttle flight.

Man shot in pub in Manchester

The victim, named by sources as 23-year-old Mark Short, was gunned down in the Cotton Tree pub in Market Street, Droylsden, Greater Manchester shortly before 11.50pm yesterday.Three other men, believed to be related to Mr Short, were also injured and are being treated in hospital.

Giant royal family on Southbank

The largest ever photograph of the Royal Family has been displayed on a prominent South Bank building in celebration of the Queen?s Diamond Jubilee.Sea Containers, by Blackfriars Bridge, was enrobed in the giant picture measuring 100m by 70m and weighing in at nearly two tons. The image was erected by a team of eight people over 45 hours. It is due to remain in place until July.

Oldest woman defeats Everest again

Watanabe reached the summit from the Tibetan side on 19 May, at the age of 73 years and 180 days. That day, more than 200 climbers were aiming for the summit on the busier southern route in Nepal. Four died, apparently from altitude sickness and exhaustion, on one of the deadliest days on the mountain.
