A SENIOR politician with Poland's ruling party accused of drunkenly shouting "Heil Hitler!" at a German customs officer apologised yesterday and stepped down as head of his party's group in the European parliament.
Jacek Protasiewicz, by his own account, drank two bottles of wine on a flight from Warsaw to Frankfurt, and then got into an argument with the customs officer as he tried to leave the airport terminal.
LOOK UP FOR CROCS
MOST people entering crocodile territory keep a wary eye out on water and land, but research suggests they need to look up.
Though the reptiles lack obvious physical features to suggest this is possible, crocodiles in fact climb trees – all the way to the crowns, according to University of Tennessee researcher Vladimir Dinets.
HORSES FIND CANNABIS
POLICE reportedly seized a stash of cannabis after horses in a nearby field were apparently attracted by the smell of the drug.
Five bin bags of cannabis leaves and stems were retrieved from a pond on farmland in Gateshead in Britain. A local resident said the horses had wandered to a hedge by the pond.
"They were sniffing about, so their owners wondered what they were looking at. It was clear the horses were attracted to the area – it was probably the smell of the cannabis," the resident said.
HAT'S OFF TO PHARRELL
A US FAST-food restaurant has paid more than €32,000 ($44,100) for a hat made famous when Pharrell Williams wore it to the Grammy Awards in January.
Arby's bought the brown fedora designed by Vivienne Westwood at an auction. The Arby's logo uses a design similar to the hat, which became a trending topic on Twitter after the chart star sported it.
The producer-rapper-singer put the hat on eBay two weeks ago, and the money will support his charity From One Hand to Another. Williams tweeted his thanks, to which Arby's replied: "You're welcome. We're HAPPY to support a great cause & get our hat back."
GIRL (2) 'DRIVES' CAR
A MAN was arrested for reportedly leaving his two-year-old daughter alone in his idling car, where she put the vehicle into drive, causing it to smash it into parked cars.
Police in Connecticut arrested 33-year-old Oscar Chicas and charged him with risk of injury to a minor. The car struck two other vehicles, causing minor damage. The girl was not injured.
