Gold wreath find in ancient city

A PRICELESS gold wreath has been unearthed in the ruins of an ancient city in northern Greece near a goddess's shrine.

The University of Thessaloniki said the find was made during an excavation at Aigai, the first capital of ancient Macedonia. The artefacts were buried with human bones in a copper vase, they initially took to be a landmine, near a shrine to the goddess Eukleia.

Avon lady Reese calling on Brazil

ACTRESS Reese Witherspoon has visited Brazil in her role as an Avon global ambassador to promote the fight against domestic violence.

Witherspoon, speaking at a press conference, said she felt compelled to use her fame to highlight serious topics.

Boulder crushes couple's home

A COUPLE from New Zealand escaped their home moments before a boulder from a cliff smashed into a wall and demolished their bathroom.

House owner Robin Webley was awoken by shingle falling on to the house and went outside his suburban home in the capital, Wellington, on North Island, to investigate.

Woman killed in heavy flooding

A WOMAN has been killed and a man is in a serious condition after severe floods, caused by rain, hit Japan.

An order was issued to evacuate 14,000 households from the city of Okazaki, southwest of Tokyo.

Lohan blog attack on 'bully' father

HOLLYWOOD star Lindsay Lohan has called her father, Michael, a "bully" and a "public embarrassment" in her MySpace blog entry.

Lohan wrote: "If you have something to say to me, say it to my face", after Michael told a website that Lohan's friend Samantha Ronson was "using" her.

Family dies in a hail of bullets

GUNMEN have killed five members of a family in northern Guatemala.

Police found the bullet-ridden bodies of the father and mother and two sons, aged seven and 10, as well as another family member at their home in the northern region of Peten.

Man held over boyfriend's death

AN AMERICAN has been charged with stabbing to death his Mexican boyfriend in the resort of Puerto Vallarta.

The US man has not been named, but prosecutors said Alejandro Martinez died of multiple stab wounds to the head, neck, face and chest.

Man shot in pub in Manchester

The victim, named by sources as 23-year-old Mark Short, was gunned down in the Cotton Tree pub in Market Street, Droylsden, Greater Manchester shortly before 11.50pm yesterday.Three other men, believed to be related to Mr Short, were also injured and are being treated in hospital.

Giant royal family on Southbank

The largest ever photograph of the Royal Family has been displayed on a prominent South Bank building in celebration of the Queen?s Diamond Jubilee.Sea Containers, by Blackfriars Bridge, was enrobed in the giant picture measuring 100m by 70m and weighing in at nearly two tons. The image was erected by a team of eight people over 45 hours. It is due to remain in place until July.

Oldest woman defeats Everest again

Watanabe reached the summit from the Tibetan side on 19 May, at the age of 73 years and 180 days. That day, more than 200 climbers were aiming for the summit on the busier southern route in Nepal. Four died, apparently from altitude sickness and exhaustion, on one of the deadliest days on the mountain.
