It will be a relief of sorts next week when the rain that has been deluging Britain finally stops, but people in some parts of the country will need to get their woollies out.
Winter is finally coming with plummeting temperatures and even snow, according to forecasters at the Weather Channel.
A spokesman said: “On Monday morning, areas across northern England to Scotland could wake up to a few centimetres of snow.
“Next week looks drier, although some wintry showers at times will be moving from the east.”
Most of the UK has been enjoying daytime temperatures in double figures for much of the lukewarm winter so far but that is set to change.
Temperatures as low as -2C are forecast even in the centre of London on Monday night, while high winds with gusts up to 30mph will make it feel even chillier.
Even more rain could fall through the week on western parts of the UK already blighted by floods, prompting warnings from the Met Office.
