Local television aired images of Manuel Burga's home surrounded by at least four police cars during his arrest.

Burga, who headed the Peruvian federation from 2002-2014, was taken to judicial police headquarters in Lima, police spokeswoman Veronica Marquez said.

Interior minister Jose Perez said the United States wants to extradite Burga to face corruption charges.

Burga denied the allegations as he was taken away, saying he had not received "a single bribe".

US authorities on Thursday accused Burga and 15 other Fifa officials in the investigation.

Guatemalan judge Hector Trujillo is charged with racketeering in the case. He was arrested on Friday aboard a cruise ship at Port Canaveral, Florida.
