Former president of Bayern Munich was convicted of tax evasion in March

Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has started serving his prison sentence for tax evasion.

Hoeness was convicted in March of evading taxes on a private bank account in Switzerland and sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison.

His lawyers and Bavarian justice officials say he reported to the Landsberg am Lech prison in southern Germany.

Hoeness admitted evading taxes on at least 28.5 million euro (£23.1 million).

The former Germany star and long-time Bayern manager declined to appeal and stepped down as president of Germany's biggest club.
