The most feared house guest is getting a PR makeover this May as London Zoo hopes to clear the name of the world's most misunderstood creature, the humble spider.

The first of its kind in Europe, the ‘In with the Spiders’ exhibit will bring people face-to-face with a range of arachnids from around the world.

Opening on Saturday 23 May 2015, London zoo visitors will get the chance to be gently acquainted with species native to the UK and Ireland before meeting more exotic specimens such as the black widow, huntsman and giant bird-eating spiders.

Visitors will then discover the true meaning of 'up close' as they enter into the forest home of the uniquely sociable Golden Orb spider, that spend their days posing on huge one-metre wide webs.

There will even be a “spider selfie” mirror where visitors can pose for a photo with the spiders.

But even if you are an arachnophobe, the zoo hopes to tempt you in, as it will be running an afternoon course for people with arachnophobia where cognitive behavioural therapy and hypnotherapy is used in a bid to cure fear of spiders.
