Weather girl's remarks spark government storm

UKRAINE'S leading weather forecaster has been forced off the air after using a bulletin to rant against the government.

Ludmila Savchenko turned her forecast on Ukrainian National Radio into an impromptu political statement, suggesting the glorious weather the country was enjoying was some compensation for its "lawlessness and injustice".

"It is simply incomprehensible that anyone can dislike this paradise on earth, this country, and the Ukrainian people so much that they treat it so badly," she said.

Ukrainian National Radio, which is supervised by the government, swiftly retaliated by halting all live weather forecasts, demanding they be recorded in future to make sure the incident could not be repeated. Mrs Savchenko has not been heard on air since her spontaneous outburst. (© The Daily Telegraph)
