Video: Woman ‘sells her baby for £300’ in Istanbul airport
A 22-year-old Turkmen woman has been arrested on suspicion of trying to sell her baby for £300 at Istanbul airport.
The woman identified as Dinara A, was caught on CCTV as she arrived at the airport on the 14th September.
She was with a woman believed to be her mother, who was carrying a holdall which authorities say was Dinara's baby.
A couple later identified as being Turkish born Germans, are then seen going to meet the young woman.
Police say the couple agreed to pay 1000 Turkish lira, which is around £300 for the child.
Security footage shows Dinara going into the toilets carrying the holdall, believed to contain her baby and then leaving without it.
Shortly after the Turkish born German woman leaves the toilets with the same holdall. But Turkish police said she brought the infant back when she realised she couldn't get through passport control without the necessary documentation.
Officers say the woman then contacted them to report an abandoned baby in the toilets.
Turkish authorities have since deported Dinara, her mother and the baby.
The woman who was trying to buy the child was released after giving her statement.
