POLICE in Britain have been given another 12 hours to question the parents of six children killed in an arson attack on their home.

Mick Philpott and his wife Mairead were arrested yesterday morning on suspicion of murder in connection with the blaze at the semi-detached house in Victory Road, Allenton, Derby, on May 11.

Today Derbyshire Police confirmed they had been granted a 12-hour extension by a superintendent to continue questioning a 55-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman from Derby, whom they have not named, until 10pm tonight.

Jade Philpott, 10, and her brothers John, nine, Jack, seven, Jessie, six, and Jayden, five, all died in the fire. A sixth sibling, Duwayne, 13, died of his injuries in Birmingham Children's Hospital two days after the blaze.

Petrol was used to start the fire at the house, police have revealed.
