A twelve-year-old girl and thirteen-year-old boy have become the UK’s youngest parents.
The mum was just ten years of age when she met the father of the child and was still at primary school when she became pregnant.
The couple, from north London, welcomed their baby girl into the world at the weekend and have promised to stay together as a family.
The grandparents are said to be ‘incredibly supportive’ of the couple who have been together for more than a year.
The girl is five months younger than the UK’s previous youngest mum, Tressa Middleton gave birth in Edinburgh aged 12 years eight months in 2006.
Meanwhile, the girl’s own mother becomes of the UK’s youngest grandmothers at 27.
“The baby’s mum and dad have been in a relationship for more than a year, so this isn’t a fleeting romance. They intend to stick together and bring their daughter up together,” a source told The Sun.
“Both sets of grandparents are incredibly supportive. It’s a very difficult situation because the parents are both so young, but their families are right behind them.”
Lina Medina from Ticrapo, Peru, holds the record for the world’s youngest mum. She gave birth to son Gerardo when she was just five years and seven months in 1939.
