Leicestershire Police said officers were called to the scene outside the Bosworth count at Hinckley Leisure Centre, in Coventry Road, Hinckley at around 2.30am.

No one was injured in the explosion, which sprayed glass across the road but did not disrupt the count.

The force tweeted: "Police car on fire at 2.30am today on Coventry Road, Hinckley. No one injured. Five men arrested in connection with the incident."

Steve Moore, watch manager at Hinckley fire station, told the BBC it was "probably malicious".
