Two people have been arrested by police investigating a machete attack on a man during a "large scale disturbance" in a car park.

Three men, all believed to be known to each other, were involved in the violent bust-up behind Piccolino's restaurant in London Road, Virginia Water, Surrey.

Two of the men are suspected to have damaged a car with metal poles. The third man is then believed to have attacked one of the other men with a machete.

Surrey Police said the machete victim sustained a serious injury to his hand, which needed surgery following Saturday evening's disturbance.

The third man is understood to have tried to flag down a number of cars, including a red Ferrari, in order to get a lift to a police station.

Appealing for witnesses, Detective Sergeant Andy Jenkins said it was an "isolated" incident as officers quizzed two men, aged 46 and 25.
