Top chef Carluccio worried for health of his friend Nigella
ORIGINAL celebrity chef Antonio Carluccio fears for the health of his friend Nigella Lawson.
Italian restaurateur Carluccio met Lawson after she married her first husband John Diamond, who died of throat cancer in 2001.
He told the Irish Independent that he worries for the culinary queen.
Carluccio (75) made six suicide attempts during periods of crippling depression.
He called on Lawson to reach out to friends during this difficult period in her life.
"Her world was more simple then before Saatchi came along and the fame that went with all of that. I don't think she coped well with it all," said Mr Carluccio, who was speaking at his newly refurbished restaurant on Dublin's Dawson Street.
"I'm still friends with her, I saw her last week at an event and she's lost, it's very sad.
"I know with my own experience, I didn't do drugs or anything, but went through a dark period, and I found talking really helped me. I know who I am now."
The godfather of Italian cuisine and star of TV series 'Two Greedy Italians' also said that the future for Lawson's career may be very uncertain.
"I think she may have cooked her goose professionally. She will have difficulty now getting (her career back on track). I wouldn't like to be in her shoes.
"It all depends on how everything goes in court, I don't know how it will end and it's hard to say whether or not her career will recover," he said.
