Three arrested after blackmail bid with photos of Rooney baby
THREE people have been arrested over an alleged plot to blackmail Coleen Rooney, it has emerged.
The wife of the Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney was targeted after losing a camera phone at a concert that contained private pictures of her son, 15-month-old son Kai.
Its believed that the three demanded a five-figure sum for the return of the camera.
But police were tipped off and the trio were arrested in a sting operation.
Coleen was with Wayne at a Black Eyed Peas gig at the MEN Arena in Manchester in May last year when she accidentally left the phone in a private box.
Its understood that she made frantic calls to the venue but arena bosses failed to find the phone.
Coleen (24) is known to have co-operated with police after attempts were made to sell pictures of Kai to media outlets.
She could be called to give evidence if the people involved are charged and the matter goes to trial.
British Transport Police, which polices the Victoria Station venue, confirmed that it had launched an investigation.
A spokesperson said: "We are investigating an allegation of blackmail that was reported to us.
"We have arrested three people -- a woman and two men -- and they are currently on bail pending further inquiries."
It's understood that the three arrested are likely to be charged in the near future.
The couple are believed to be alarmed over attempts to sell the pictures, which are described as treasured family shots.
Ian Monk, the couple's spokesperson, said the Rooneys took their son's privacy very seriously but added that they could not say anything else.
