Human rights groups, politicians and unions joined Saturday's march in Paris.

France imposed a state of emergency, which gives more power to police and administrative authorities, after the November 13 Paris attacks that killed 130 people. It is expected to be renewed at the end of February.

Jean-Baptiste Eyrault, of the Right To Housing movement, said: "Democracy is moving backwards."
