Suzanne Harrison, director of the Suffolk One sixth form centre in England, faces three charges relating to sexual activity with a pupil aged under 16.

The alleged victim was a girl taught by Harrison at a previous school.

The 35-year-old taught geography at Otley College in Colchester before moving to the Ipswich centre.

She appeared at South East Suffolk Magistrates' Court yesterday and was released on bail until July 28.

She had previously been charged with three counts of being an adult who abused a position of trust by engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 17 but these charges were amended.

One count involves sexual assault of a child involving penetration, said to have happened in January 2006.

A spokesman for the school said: ''We can confirm that an employee was immediately suspended on July 8, 2011, when an allegation came to light.''
