Shocking video: level crossing near misses caught on camera

These are the shocking clips of near misses on level crossings that include a man who was seconds away from being struck down by a train.

Footage shows a number of close shaves on the train lines, including a man who skipped past the barriers to cross the line only seconds before a train passed.

Meanwhile, a cyclist was captured on camera being knocked down by the closing barriers after failing to stop in front of the flashing lights.

The video also shows the heart-stopping moment a motorist was stuck on the train tracks after driving across the line as the barriers shut.

The footage was released by the British Transport Police (BTP) as part of a new campaign to stop people misusing crossings.

Inspector Becky Warren of BTP said: "All too often people get into the habit of taking risks at crossings and our message is simple, use crossings safely.

"It may be tempting to jump a light to shave a minute or two off your journey, but every time you do, you endanger your life and the lives of other road and rail users.

"Fail to obey the signals and you may also end up with a driving ban or a criminal record – is it really worth the risk?"
