SEVEN people have appeared in court charged with murder over the fire that killed the wife and three children of a Muslim Irish-based doctor.
Kemo Anthony Porter, 18, Nathaniel Mullings, 19, Jackson Powell, 19, Aaron Webb, 19, Akeem Jeffers, 21, and Shaun Carter, 24, along with a 16-year-old youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were all remanded in custody following a four-minute hearing at Leicester Crown Court.
They are each charged with the murders of Shehnila Taufiq, 47, her daughter Zainab, 19, and sons Bilal, 17, and Jamil, 15, the family of Dr Muhammad Taufiq Al Sattar, a well-known neurosurgeon who works at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
All seven defendants will reappear at the same court for a plea hearing on January 27.
The four family members died when flames engulfed their home in Wood Hill, Leicester, in the early hours of September 13.
Detectives have been examining possible links between the suspected arson attack and the fatal stabbing of youth football coach Antoin Akpom in Leicester on September 12.
