GANGSTER Mark Duggan was apparently inspired into a life of crime by his Manchester- Irish, IRA-supporting gangster uncle who had close ties to associates of the Dublin gangster Martin Cahill. Dessie Noonan, whose family came from Dublin, was a drug dealer and gangster who made a fortune selling ecstasy in Manchester in the 1980s.
Noonan, who was stabbed to death outside a pub in 2005, was also a strong IRA supporter, taking part in the annual commemoration for the Manchester Martyrs. He was a close associate of two members of the Dublin gang of Martin ‘the General’ Cahill, who was shot dead in 1994.
Mark Duggan, the 29-yearold shot dead by police in Tottenham last week, regularly visited his uncle and had close links to gangs in Manchester. Noonan was married to Duggan’s mother’s sister. Noonan was a particularly close associate of two of Cahill’s lieutenants who moved to Holland after Cahill’s murder.
