Police in Hungary have detained two British men who spent time in prison for financing acts of terror, were released in 2009 and were not allowed to leave Britain without permission for 10 years.

The men were taken into custody on November 14 in eastern Hungary on a train heading for Bucharest, Romania, National Police said in a statement.

One man, identified as 44-year-old Simon Jonathan K, had a valid British driver's licence, while the other man, 40-year-old Trevor B, only gave police a Koran when asked for ID.

Police in Britain said they issued arrest warrants for both men. They said the investigation is not linked to the Paris attacks but declined to give details.

Both were in pre-deportation detention on Wednesday.
