A newborn baby boy has died after being bitten by a dog.
The one-week-old baby, named Harry Harper, died in hospital yesterday morning after paramedics were called to an address in Telford in England.
A police spokesman said officers were awaiting the result of a post-mortem examination, and have launched an investigation to establish the precise circumstances of the death.
It was reported last night that Harry's mother wrote on Twitter just weeks ago about how her dog attacked one of her favourite soft toys.
On October 25, mum Mikayla wrote on Twitter: "My teddy paddy is dead #cryingrealtears my silly little dog pj took one of his eyes!"
The teenager's profile on the social networking site also contained two pictures of a terrier-type dog captioned 'my doggy', posted within the last six months.
The family of Harry told yesterday how they had "no words" to describe the pain they were experiencing after the loss of the tragic baby.
A statement through West Mercia Police said: "As a family we are absolutely devastated by Harry's death and have no words to describe the loss we have suffered.
"At the present time we have no wish to speak publicly about yesterday's events and would ask that we are left in peace to grieve and begin to deal with our loss."
The baby's father, trainee electrician Tom Harper (19) lives in nearby Shifnal, with his parents Andrea and Neville and older brother Nicholas.
Neighbours yesterday expressed their shock at the tragic death.
One couple, who didn't want to be named, said: "It's very, very sad. Losing a baby must be heartbreaking, however it happens, and they need to be left to grieve.
"Tom is such a nice chap. He's lovely. He's so friendly. He won't walk past the house without shouting hello if he sees us. He's always got time for a chat. I didn't know he even had a girlfriend so I didn't know he had recently had a baby."
Pals took to Twitter to offer condolences to Tom and girlfriend Mikayla yesterday. Emma Farr said: "The saddest time, my heart goes out to mikayla and her family. Riplittle Harry xxx #heartbraking (sic)". Sam Hole tweeted: "My thoughts are with Tommy and Mikayla! RIP Harry."
