A WOMAN has died and two others are being treated in hospital after sustaining suspected crush injuries at a music event at a nightclub, police have said.

Police were called to the Lava & Ignite night club on St Peters Way in Northampton town centre just after midnight.

The two women are being treated at Northampton General Hospital with critical injuries, a police spokesman said.

Another person is believed to have being injured in the incident.

The fatal and critical injuries are all thought to be the result of crushing but the police investigation into the incident is continuing to establish what happened.

Fire crews were also called to the club at 3.37am, a spokeswoman for Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue service said.

A multi-agency approach has been launched to investigate the incident, a police spokesman said, and inquiries are ongoing.

The nightclub has been sealed off while officers conduct an investigation at the site.

It has been reported that the woman who died may have been a student at the University of Northampton.

A spokesman from the university refused to confirm the reports but said the university was liaising with police.
