Murdered student starred in music video

Tuesday June 09 2009

Murdered British student Meredith Kercher appeared in a music video shortly before her death, it was revealed yesterday.

The 21-year-old student, who was sexually assaulted and killed in Perugia, Italy, had a cameo role in 'Some Say' by the pop singer Kristian Leontiou.

Ms Kercher was found dead in her bedroom in the cottage she shared with defendant Amanda Knox and two Italian girls on her year abroad in the Umbrian town.

Her throat had been slit and her semi-naked body was partially covered by a duvet.

In the video, which has no connection to the court case, Ms Kercher -- known as Mez -- is seen walking through a door with eyes lowered, before glancing up at the camera.

Francesco Maresca, the Kercher family lawyer, said: "The singer in the music video was a friend of Meredith's.

"I don't know exactly what the relationship was between the singer and Meredith, but I believe they were in the same group of friends," he said.

The court heard from Ms Kercher's relatives, who gave evidence as civil plaintiffs in a case running alongside the criminal trial.

The Kercher family are seeking about €23m in damages.

Knox is due to begin giving evidence on Friday.

Athens burns as politicians vote

The historic vote paves the way for Greece's European partners and the International Monetary Fund to release 170 billion euro in new rescue loans, without which Greece would default on its mountain of debt next month and likely leave the eurozone - a scenario that would further unsettle global markets. Politicians voted 199-74 in favour of the cutbacks, despite strong dissent among the two main coalition members.
