The mother of a newborn baby abandoned in disabled toilets last night has been found and is receiving medical treatment, police have said.
It is believed the girl, named April by staff at the Ormskirk hospital where she is being treated, might have been delivered yesterday at Silcock's Amusement Arcade in Nevill Street, Stockport, where she was discovered.
Merseyside Police today released an image of the baby girl, wearing a pink playsuit, as they sought to identify her mother.
In a statement this afternoon, officers said they had traced the mother to an address in the Merseyside area.
Superintendent Claire Richards said: "I would like to thank the local community, the online community and the media for their assistance in this matter."
Emergency services were called to the arcade in Southport at about 6.50pm yesterday after staff found the baby abandoned inside the disabled toilets.
A police spokesman said there was evidence to suggest the baby was "born where she was found".
They said the little girl was "safe and well", and being cared for in hospital.
Police later issued a still CCTV image from the arcade of a woman potentially linked to the case, but were unable to confirm her possible relationship to the child.
