Merkel under fire for remark on persecution
OPPOSITION politicians and rights groups have criticised German Chancellor Angela Merkel for saying Christianity is "the most persecuted religion".
Jerzy Montag of the opposition Greens said her comments were "not helpful".
Human Rights Watch noted that Muslims in Burma and Jews in many countries face persecution.
Ms Merkel's comments came at a meeting of the German Protestant Church, in which she said Germany needed to protect Christian minorities.
