Man (67) dies after setting himself on fire in busy street

A pensioner has died after setting himself on fire in a busy high street.

Police were called to Lowestoft, Suffolk, at 5.10pm on Friday after reports that the man was on fire in London Road North, which is the town's main shopping street.

He suffered serious burns to his legs and body and was taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, Essex, for specialist treatment.

Suffolk Police confirmed the 67-year-old died on Tuesday.

A force spokesman said: "Officers are preparing a report for the coroner and an inquest will be held in due course."
