Klitschko has ringside seat at political brawl

World heavyweight boxing champion Vitali Klitschko had a ringside seat as the opening session of Ukraine's parliament descended into a mass brawl yesterday.

Fists flew as opposition politicians and pro-government legislators wrestled with each other and some deputies were knocked over in the melee.

Klitschko, who heads the UDAR (Punch) party, was content to watch the ugly scenes unfold rather than join in.

The session was postponed and when it eventually resumed pro-government member Volodymyr Rybak was elected speaker.
