James Murdoch steps down from boards of The Sun, Times and Sunday Times

JAMES Murdoch has quit a string of directorships at News International, including the boards of the Times, the Sun and the Sunday Times, the Evening Standard reports today.

The paper says Murdoch Jnr has stepped down from his position at News Group Newspapers Ltd and Times Newspapers Ltd, effective immediately. The news is based on filings at Companies House.



Rupert Murdoch’s son also faces calls to quit as chairman of BSkyB at next week's annual general meeting.



His decision means no member of the Murdoch family now sits on the boards of the flagship UK papers..



Tom Mockridge, former boss of Sky Italia who replaced Rebekah Brooks as NI chief executive in July, has taken over from him at NGN and TNL.



He is still chairman of News International.
